Our Approved Installers have been laying artificial lawns for customers across the county for a number of years, and they all agree that it’s an amazing county to both live and work in.
Hampshire has a long history, dating all the way back to Roman times, when the town of Winchester was the county’s capital town. That town’s Gothic cathedral – immortalised in song by The New Vaudeville Band – has the longest nave of any cathedral in Europe.
Today, the county has grown to a population of around 1.84 million, and is the most heavily populated county outside of the home counties and Greater London.
Hampshire is blessed with beautiful countryside and there is plenty to see and do for nature lovers. Almost half of the county is covered by the National Parks of the New Forest and the South Downs, and both are enormously popular with locals and tourists, alike. Is there a better sight than New Forest ponies, cantering freely or peacefully cropping the grass? They’re a huge help to the ecosystem, too – their grazing habits keep the forest in good order.
Hampshire is also well known for being the home of two large ports.
Southampton is famous for having been the port that the Mayflower set out for America from, and also where the Titanic departed the UK on its doomed maiden voyage.
Today, it handles a large percentage of the container freight arriving in the UK and is the home port for many of the largest cruise ships in the world.
Southampton is the most populous city in Hampshire and has a wealth of history, culture and retail therapy on offer.
There are plenty of museums telling the tale of the city and its people, both on and off the water. In terms of famous historical buildings and landmarks, you’re spoilt for choice. The city walls date to medieval times, then there’s the beautiful, half-timbered Tudor House and Gardens, Bargate, Guildhall and the Wool and Custom House.
The city is renowned for live music and West End shows, and the enormous Westquay shopping centre is enough to satisfy even the most dedicated and demanding shopper.
Portsmouth is the other famous port in Hampshire and, like Southampton, it’s packed with history.
The military port has been the home of the Royal Navy for centuries and is a popular destination for tourists, who flock to the Historic Dockyard to board famous ships of the Royal Navy, including HMS Victory, the flagship of Admiral Nelson, first launched over 250 years ago and the oldest warship in the world still in commission.
Portsmouth is also set to be the home port of the two Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers, the largest ships ever built by the Royal Navy.
The most visible landmark is arguably the 560-foot high Spinnaker Tower, which is an element of the redevelopment of Portsmouth Harbour. It’s lit up at night, and easily visible from the Isle of Wight (where some people think it looks more like a robot than the billowing sails it’s intended to represent!).
Hampshire folk who’ve made their mark on the world include Florence Nightingale, who established modern nursing practices, and the engineering colossus, Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Between them, they changed and shaped history. In 2002, the BBC conducted a poll, followed up by a TV series, to establish the 100 Greatest Britons; Florence Nightingale came in at number 52, and Brunel at 2, losing out to Sir Winston Churchill for the top spot.
It’s no surprise Hampshire is such a popular place – there’s just so much to see, do and admire.
Say goodbye to mud & mess... and hello to a lush green lawn
Hampshire is one of the UK’s most affluent counties, with unemployment rates amongst the lowest in the country. Many of its residents have particularly busy lifestyles, making it little wonder that so many locals are transforming their tired, worn out grass into lush green artificial lawns. The maintenance required for fake turf is minimal and can save busy people many hours of their spare time. Also, you’ll be able to ditch the lawnmower and forget about the chemical warfare you’ve being waging against your lawn for years, with the vast array of weedkillers, pesticides and fertilisers people routinely use. It is certainly not true that synthetic turf is 100% maintenance free, but an artificial lawn requires little more than the occasional brush with a stiff broom to invigorate the fibres and remove any debris. Artificial grass is hugely popular amongst pet owners, too, which is especially important throughout Hampshire, as a large percentage of the population owns dogs and other pets. With artificial grass, there is no mud or mess, so your pets can use the lawn all year round without you having to worry about muddy footprints coming back into the house. AstroTurf will not be damaged by your dog, either, as they can’t dig through the tough latex backing, and urine and solids will not stain or ruin the grass. In fact, both the kids and the dogs can race around safely – even straight after rain – as artificial grass is both free-draining and non-slip, unlike real grass lawns! Synthetic grass is the perfect solution for shaded gardens that lack sufficient sunlight to grow real grass. That patchy area in the corner that’s always damp and dull can be transformed into a pleasant green space that’s perfect for reading on a sunny day. In fact, synthetic turf has the ability to drastically transform any Hampshire outdoor space, whether it’s a spacious garden lawn, swimming pool surround, small courtyard, or even just a balcony.
