0-6mm Granite Dust for Artificial Grass
Granite dust is used to form the ‘laying course’ in an artificial grass installation. The ‘laying course’ is the final layer of aggregates that is installed directly underneath the artificial grass, and on top of the sub-base.
For the laying course, we recommend that you use either limestone or granite dust, which is sometimes known as ‘grano’ – short for ‘granolithic’.
This dust, or grano, is 0–6mm in diameter. It is a coarse aggregate that binds together to form a strong laying course.
It also provides a flat, smooth surface on which to lay artificial grass.
Prior to installing the laying course, you’ll need to install a 50mm–100mm sub-base, consisting of either MOT Type 1 or 20mm granite chippings.
How much aggregate will I need for the laying course?
We recommend that you install your laying course to a depth of 25mm, or 1 inch.
Our granite dust is supplied in 850kg ‘bulk bags’, or ‘ton bags’, as they are also known.
To help you calculate how much you need, enter the total square meterage of your lawn area in the calculator, below.
How do you install the laying course?
The laying course is levelled using a rake, to a depth of 25mm (1 inch) across the entire lawn area, and then thoroughly compacted with a vibrating plate compactor.
Prior to using the plate compactor, we recommend that you lightly spray the aggregates using a garden hose. This helps the dust bind together, whilst also helping to prevent the dust becoming airborne.
To ensure adequate compaction, guide the plate compactor both up and down, and from side to side, across the entire surface of your lawn.
How will my Granite Dust be delivered?
Our bulk bags are shipped via a third-party, tail-lift, pallet courier. Delivery is within 5-7 working days.
For pallet deliveries, it is extremely important that your property can be accessed by a 7.5-ton lorry.
Pallets are lowered off the back of the lorry and manoeuvred by the driver to as near to your property as is deemed safe.
Delivery can only be made if the ground is flat and level. It must be free from gravel and uneven paving. If the ground is unsuitable, pallets may be left on the roadside/kerbside, at the driver’s discretion.
If deliveries cannot be made due to insufficient access or unsuitable offloading, or where incorrect/insufficient instructions have been provided, additional charges will be incurred.
Please note, if you are also ordering artificial grass, your goods will be delivered via separate couriers.
