Control Nasty Odours with Natural Zeolite Artificial Grass Infill

What is DeoFill®?

DeoFill® is an artificial grass infill designed specifically to control the nasty smells that can become trapped in artificial grass from pet urine. It can also help to keep your turf cool.
DeoFill® is a natural zeolite with a clinoptilolite mineral content of up to 90% and is completely free from quartz and harmful substances.
Zeolite offers many of the same benefits gained from using a standard kiln-dried silica sand infill on your artificial lawn.
DeoFill® is non-toxic so it will not harm your pets in any way. It will not cause a reaction if it comes into contact with skin, either.
How does DeoFill® work?
DeoFill® works by absorbing the ammonia found within urine to help prevent nasty, lingering odours in your artificial turf.
The zeolite used in DeoFill® has a negatively charged honeycomb structure that absorbs the ammonia contained within urine, like a sponge.
During rainfall, the sodium ion found within rain droplets releases the bacteria and flushes the ammonia through the turf, recharging the DeoFill® when dry.
How do I install DeoFill®?
DeoFill® should only be installed when your artificial grass is completely dry.
- Brush the fibres of your artificial turf using an artificial grass rake, a stiff broom or, ideally, a power brush to ensure the fibres are vertical.
- Apply a quarter of the required quantity of DeoFill® evenly onto your artificial lawn. For best results, use a drop spreader.
- Use the stiff broom or power brush to work the granules of DeoFill® to the bottom of the pile.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 to continue applying DeoFill® in small amounts until the required quantities have been evenly applied to the entire area.
- Using a garden hose, water down the dust on the surface of your lawn. You may need to use a combination of water and brushing to remove the dust completely.
Always wear a dust mask and safety goggles when applying DeoFill®.
How much DeoFill® will I need?
This depends upon the size and/or number of dogs that will be using your lawn.
For small/medium-sized dogs – use 7–8kg per square metre.
For large dogs – use 10–12kg per square metre.
For multiple dogs – use as much as your artificial grass will hold.
Note: If the pile on your turf is too short to hold the required quantities then it is possible to place DeoFill® underneath your artificial turf; however, DeoFill® performs best on the surface.
DeoFill® care & maintenance
Natural rainfall will flush away the ammonia without the need for hosing. Too much water will restrict the ability of DeoFill® to retain ammonia.
During long periods without rainfall, use a bio-enzyme cleaner to kill any bacteria.
Continue to follow your manufacturer’s recommendations for maintaining your artificial lawn and top-up DeoFill as necessary.
FAQs
What is zeolite?
Natural zeolite is a volcanic mineral. Most natural zeolites have a chemical formula of M2/n:Al2O3:xSiO2:yH2O.
Should I use zeolite on my artificial grass?
DeoFill® will only be necessary if you have dog(s) that regularly urinate on your turf; otherwise, you’ll just need to use kiln-dried silica sand.
Typically, if you follow our recommendations when installing artificial grass (i.e. permeable sub-base and no weed membrane beneath your turf) and it’s properly maintained, it’s unlikely that your artificial grass will smell.
However, if your lawn was not installed following the above recommendations or if you have multiple dogs, then the ideal solution would be to use zeolite.
Is zeolite suitable for all types of pile height?
We recommend using a grass with a minimum pile height of 35mm, otherwise the turf will be unable to hold enough zeolite to absorb the ammonia.
Do you recommend using zeolite AND silica sand infill?
We recommend using just one type of infill. If you have pets, then using zeolite is good choice, but otherwise we would recommend using a rounded, kiln-dried silica sand.
Is it safe for children and pets?
Zeolite in its natural form is 100% safe for children and pets. Zeolite, in a smaller particle size, is in fact used as a detoxifier and it’s sold for human consumption in supplement form. However, we do not recommend that you encourage your dog to ingest zeolite.
Are there any other benefits of using zeolite?
Zeolite shares many of the same benefits gained from using a standard kiln-dried silica sand infill on your artificial lawn.
It will help to protect the backing material and supports the fibres to assist them in remaining in a vertical position.
It can help to aid drainage as it will draw in moisture and help to prevent the spread of bacteria.
Zeolite can also help to keep your lawn cool during hot summer days.
Zeolite is non-toxic so it will not harm your pets in any way. It will not cause a reaction if it comes into contact with skin, either.
How much is delivery?
£8.99 for single 25kg bags and £49.99 for 5 bags or more.
How long does delivery normally take?
Your order will arrive within 3-5 working days as standard.
However, if you require your order urgently, we may be able to ship quicker – within 1-2 days. Please call us on 01245 931200 to arrange this.
If you are also purchasing artificial grass, your items will normally be sent together and delivery may take up to 5–7 working days.
Please call 01245 931200 for further information.
How will my delivery be shipped?
Single bags will be shipped in boxes and delivered straight to your door.
Orders of 5 bags or more will be shipped via a third-party, tail-lift, pallet courier.
Please note, if you are also ordering artificial grass, your goods may be delivered via multiple couriers to offer you the most cost-effective shipping method.
For pallet deliveries, it is extremely important that your property can be accessed by a 7.5-ton lorry.
Pallets are lowered off the back of the lorry and manoeuvred by the driver to as near to your property as is deemed safe.
Delivery can only be made if the ground is flat and level. It must be free from gravel and uneven paving. If the ground is unsuitable, pallets may be left on the roadside/kerbside, at the driver’s discretion.
If deliveries cannot be made due to insufficient access or unsuitable offloading, or where incorrect/insufficient instructions have been provided, additional charges will be incurred.
If you are also ordering artificial grass or foam underlay as well as DeoFill®, your goods may be delivered separately in order to ship your products in the most cost-effective method possible.
